Great Northern Highway Overpass

Fortescue Metals Group, along with contractors Calibre and ABI Group, commenced works on a vehicle overpass at the Great Northern Highway level crossing in South Hedland in the middle of 2012. The overpass was constructed in collaboration with Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) and will become a new section of road.
The overpass is part of Fortescue’s US $8.4 billion expansion program across the Pilbara to increase annual iron ore handling capacity to 155 million tonnes.
Having worked with the ABI Group’s management team before, Fremantle Construction were the preferred sub contractor to help meet their extra labour requirements. We supplied formwork carpenters on a 4/1 roster and concreters when required for the bridge deck pours.
