Hope Downs 4

The Hope Downs is a joint venture between Rio Tinto and Hancock Prospecting. The HOPE DOWNS 4 (HD4) project will add 30 million tonnes of annual iron ore production capacity to Rio’s Pilbara portfolio and double, to about 60mtpa, the Hope Downs join venture’s yearly output.
Macmahon Holdings was awarded the contract by Hamersley Iron to construct a new rail connection from the existing Hope Downs 1 mine rail line and a new mine site being established at Hope Downs 4. This included the construction of two rail bridges, one spanning the Weeli Wolli Creek and the second spanning the Coondiner Creek.
Having worked with the Macmahon’s construction team before, Fremantle Constructions were the preferred sub contractor when the project needed an up-lift of blue collar workers. We supplied carpenters, concreters and steel fixers which insured the project was completed within the scheduled time to meet Rio Tinto’s very tight schedule…
